Inspiring Through Art and Design
The Museo de Arte y Diseño de Miramar (MADMi) is a vibrant cultural institution in San Juan’s historic Miramar neighborhood. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, MADMi is dedicated to inspiring creativity and innovation through its focus on decorative arts, design, and visual arts. The museum is an interactive space that fosters ambitious projects that positively impact the community.
A Rich Tapestry of Exhibitions and Collections
MADMi’s permanent collection offers a glimpse into Puerto Rico’s middle-class lifestyle from the early to mid-20th century, showcasing furniture and objects that reflect the era’s design evolution. Notably, the museum commissioned artist Miguel Luciano to create a sculpture inspired by a 1949 Studebaker 2R pickup truck, paying homage to founder Eduardo Méndez Bagur’s legacy. This piece exemplifies the museum’s commitment to blending historical significance with contemporary artistic expression.

Collaborations and Community Engagement
MADMi collaborates with various cultural institutions and foundations, including the Titín Foundation and the La Fundación Esposos Luis Méndez Vaz y María Bagur, whose generosity has been instrumental in the museum’s development. These partnerships enable MADMi to offer a range of educational programs, workshops, and events designed to engage diverse audiences and foster a deeper appreciation for art and design.
Historical Roots in the Pink House
Housed in the iconic “Casa Rosada” at 607 Calle Cuevillas, MADMi’s building was constructed in 1913 as the residence of Judge Luis Méndez Vaz and María Bagur. Inspired by European architecture, the French Neoclassical Revival-style home has been a studio for renowned Puerto Rican artists, including Lorenzo Homar. This rich history enhances the museum’s mission to connect past and present through art and design.

Visitors are encouraged to explore MADMi’s dynamic exhibitions and participate in its educational offerings. The museum welcomes volunteers passionate about art and design to join its community and contribute to various programs and events.
