Providing Lifelines for Women in Crisis
Fundación Alas a la Mujer, a distinguished 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization in Puerto Rico, provides specialized support services for women facing domestic violence, sexual assault, or poverty. Their mission emphasizes fostering women’s capacities, enabling them to achieve their full potential within a culture of non-violence and respect for gender diversity.
From Survivors to Leaders: Transforming Women’s Lives 
With offices strategically located in San Juan, Utuado, Lares, Jayuya, and Adjuntas, Fundación Alas a la Mujer delivers comprehensive psychosocial counseling and interventions. These services address immediate crises and also support long-term recovery and empowerment. The organization operates safe havens that offer critical resources such as emergency assistance, clothing, food, and financial aid to support women’s journeys toward independence.
Advocating for Gender Equality and Education 
Gender equality ensures equal rights, responsibilities, and opportunities for individuals regardless of gender, recognizing and addressing historical disparities. Fundación Alas a la Mujer champions educational campaigns designed to raise community awareness about the harmful effects of patriarchy and gender-based violence against women. The organization promotes awareness and encourages societal change through workshops, forums, and educational materials distributed across schools, colleges, and workplaces. As stated on their social media, education is “the most powerful tool we have to break cycles of violence and build a future free from abuse.”
Building Community Resilience and Solidarity
Fundación Alas a la Mujer established the Coalition for the Prevention and Eradication of Gender-Based Violence in Utuado, uniting diverse community sectors to address gender-based violence comprehensively.
