Teamwork in the Heart of Río Piedras
“Dos cabezas piensan mejor que una” (Two heads are better than one) on February 5, 2026, demonstrated the value of the Rio Piedras art scene as a community resource that fosters dialogue. While we love finding welcoming spaces for our veteran community to hang out, this particular show caught our eye because it’s a masterclass in collaboration and mutual support.
Artists: Admin Torres & Flaki Joe
The exhibit isn’t just two artists hanging work in the same room; it’s a joint project born from their shared workshop in Río Piedras, Chester n Chester.
Admin Torres is a multidisciplinary artist from Guaynabo specializing in oil painting and drawing. Her work often features expressive, symbolic imagery, like bones, human figures, and gestural marks, that make you stop and think about time and human nature.
Flaki Joe brings a different but equally vital set of skills. He is an expert in artisanal custom framing and lampworking (glasswork). His work focuses on the craft of the “object,” turning physical structures into art.
Why “Two Heads”?
The big idea here is that they’ve done away with the old rule that a “frame” is just a border. In this show, the frame is part of the painting.
They used scenes from everyday life and family references to create pieces where Admin’s expressive paintings dialogue directly with Flaki’s handcrafted structures. It’s a literal representation of how two different skill sets—one focused on the image, the other on the structure—can build something stronger together than they could alone.
Whether it’s through art, a shared cup of coffee, or a community event, getting out and staying connected is how we keep our community strong.
